Why the Bandas need unusual care
The Banda Islands are remote, served by an irregular ferry and a small airstrip, and almost everything written about them online is either out of date or copied from something out of date. Schedules change seasonally and at short notice. So our transport pages carry the date we last confirmed a sailing or a flight, name the operator, and say plainly when a connection is unreliable rather than presenting a chain of legs as if it were a timetable.
Where our information comes from
Sea and air connections are confirmed with the operating carrier or the harbour office for the route in question. Historical and heritage material — the nutmeg trade, the Dutch and English forts, the perkenier estates — is sourced to published histories rather than to tour narration, which locally is entertaining and frequently wrong. Diving and snorkelling conditions are described from operator records for the month concerned, not as an annual average.

This site is written and edited by a desk. No page is bylined to an individual, and we publish no personal travel record, dive certification or years-of-residence claim, because none of those would be verifiable by a reader. Corrections reach us through the contact page and are dated when applied.
